Association ~ Who are we and what are we all about?
Where you meet with a Handshake and Say Goodbye with a Hug
The GWTA was formed from a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who did not want to
belong to a group that was dictated to by someone that had turned the
organization into a business for the profits of a select few. Instead, the GWTA
was formed in September 1987 -- the common goal was for a solid, democratic, and
responsive organization. The Gold Wing Touring Association is a touring
motorcycle organization directed by its members, for its members.
"The objective of the organization
is to provide an environment and organizational structure in which each member
may enjoy social gatherings and events without political or religious
endorsements or affiliations. It also encourages good riding habits, involvement
in civil and charitable affairs, and projects a positive image of motorcycling
to the general public."
The most important ingredient for a successful association is its members. Where
do we find them and how do we make them interested to become one of us? Each of
us have our own reasons, but the primary reason most of us join is for
friendship. Let's take a look at these ideals which GWTA brings to us.
Promote Friendship: What a better way to enjoy our way of life then make
friends and share with others.
Promote Safety: We can enjoy the fact that we are doing something to
protect others by teaching them safe riding practices.
Promote the Image: This is the primary ideal. We have come a long
way, but we have a long way to go.
The GWTA’s philosophies is a reflection a five letter word:
P is for Pleasure, we drive the finest machine on
the road
R is for Roads we travel in smooth comfort
I is for Inspiration each time we see a new part of
the world
D is for Desire to get the most of all good times,
alone or with others
E is for Excellence that GWTA has put in this
association
PRIDE is the prime reason why we do things and it
does not stop here. The more friends we have the more benefits we can provide.
The above words summarize the philosophy of our association, but they do not
tell you about the fun, friendships, and good times that lie ahead when you join
GWTA. Our motto is Destination Friendship.
Destination Friendship ... What a great way to
explain GWTA in two words. An idea whose time has come. An association governed
by duly elected members elected by the membership. It is all of us working
together and playing together that makes GWTA so special. The GWTA has chapters
located throughout Canada and the USA. There are no borders or boundaries as
they are invisible for the fun and friendships that await you. If you have any
